Biggest loser and the Fitness & Nutrition challenge

In my nearly four years teaching fitness for moms, if there is one thing I've learned it's that the word "challenge" really gets those mama moving! It's really close to giving my brother a double dog dare when we were kids. A 3 minute cardio challenge (watch those ladies move), hot mama fitness challenge ( we're signing up!), Try this move to make those squats a little more challenging (whew, at least half the group will give it a whirl)....so with that being said here comes the Fitness & Nutrition Challenge for Spring!

Fallen team member

This past Sunday was a CRAZY day! Nutrition fuels fitness madness. Both Jessie & Nicholas ran in the kids races (and did GREAT!), the moms in motion team I lead participated in the 5K for their culminating event, families from StrollerFit participated in the 5K stroller start (sponsored by StrollerFit!), home for grocery shopping and cooking a potluck dish and we wrapped it up with a fundraiser extravaganza that evening raising over $1000 for our childhood obesity programs that NADA puts together. Whew!!

Moms in motion is about Fitness, Fun and Philanthropy. Its about supporting each other on a team, about supporting our community and taking time out for ourselves. When our latest team began in January, we never imagined we would cross the finish line at the 5K today without one of our team members. Last week, a plane went down in Montana carrying Vanessa Pullen, her husband, children and extended family. Each and every one of us is heartbroken and touched. Vanessa was a positive person with a tremendous impact on our community through her Moms in Motion participation as well as her work as an Elk Grove pediatrician, and loving mother.

At our race Sunday, we honored her by wearing her name on our jerseys. Philanthropy is part of every moms in motion team, but we've decided to donate all proceeds from our fundraising efforts this season to NADA in Vanessa's name. The money will go to support childhood obesity programs in our area, a cause we know she supported. Each day is a gift we must cherish.

Gotta go hug the kids again!!!

Let's do this thing again!

Moms in motion Elk Grove, much to my delight, has been a tremendous success. We are just two weeks out from our second culminating event with a very spirited, dedicated and really FUN group of teammates. I must admit, I really look forward to Saturday mornings when I can get out and run or walk with these inspiring women. Hearing the stories, challenges and incredible ideas for our philanthropy makes me want to do it again...soon!

So here goes....announcement for the Spring run/walk team with a much in demand longer distance option!

Calling all Women!!!

two more success stories

Just in the last week I've heard GREAT things from two more mamas.

Krissy reported in restore the core that she took a chance, grabbed the skinny jeans from the top of the closet......THEY FIT!!!! yeah Krissy...you go girl!

Shannon D, another restore the core mama, just delivered baby #2 with "very fast" pushing. She's making my heart soar by giving credit to her devotion to restore the core during her pregnancy.

Once again, you ladies are awesome!

Go mama!

Just heard from Denise about some GREAT success she's having! Denise starting coming to classes late last year. A month or so in, I remember her coming to me and saying "I haven't lost a pound, what do I do?" We had a great conversation about challenging yourself in class, committing to regular exercise and how important it was to keep on track with nutrition. Denise started a food log...and then took another step to join Weight Watchers. She's a regular in StrollerFit classes and improving her nutrition, and has now lost over 20 pounds!!! All that mommymuscle must be helping. YEAH mama!

We're all so proud of her and know she'll keep going.
